Why I Registered Domains Ending With “101″

Keyword 101.com's

As 2009 came to a close I started registering keyword domains ending with “101”.

One reason I started registering domains like this is because all of the top keyword domains were taken.  Let’s say I wanted to register PhysicalTherapy.com, which according to Google’s keyword tool gets around 246,000 local searches for the month of Dec…  Of course this name is probably owned by one of the big domain guys out there.  So with that in mind I go and register PhysicalTherapy101.com.  It’s a .com which contains the targeted keyword.  Every domain blog that I have read, agreed on one thing, well two things, it must contain the targeted keyword and be a .com.  By adding “101” to the end of the domain you have accomplished both.

Secondly, I read an article about how successful MoxyMedia.com and TSAVO.com have been developing these types of domains.  According to Moxy Media’s own site they get approximately 15 million visitors per month to their network of sites.

They own domains like FitnessGear101.com which got 14,000+ unique visitors for the month of Dec, InsuranceGuide101.com 4,500+, MassageTherapy101.com 18,000 + and Industrial101.com at 145,000 visitors in Dec… As you can see these types of domains can pull in a lot of traffic.  You can only imagine with that amount of traffic how much they earn per year with these names.

As I am writing this, I am going through my domains ending in “101’ into Google’s keyword suggestion tool to see which of them I will try to develop this year if time permits.  So far HardDriveRecovery101.com has a high CPC of $20.95 with an exact search volume of 201,000 for Dec. followed by MortgageLender101.com with a CPC of $11.31 with an exact search volume of 301,000 for its targeted keyword for Dec…

Hopefully within a year’s time I can have at least a few 100,000 searches per month to my network of sites.  Here’s looking forward to the future.
